Always read and understand the tire equipment operator’s manual before operating the wheel balancer.
These instructions are based on the Hunter GSP9700 wheel balancer. Some steps might be different for other wheel balancers. Refer to the operator's manual and on-screen instructions for specific information.
Procedure
| 1 | Refer to the "Tire and Loading Information" label located on the driver side B-pillar, and record the correct tire pressure, depending on suspension type, tire size, and region. |
| 2 | Raise the vehicle and remove the wheels to balance. See Wheel (Remove and Install). |
| 3 | Install the proper inner cone adapter on the wheel balancer. |
| 4 | Place the wheel on the balancer with the front of the wheel facing outward. |
| 5 | Position the outer flange plate on the wheel. |
| 6 | Press and hold the brake pedal to keep the wheel from spinning. |
| 7 | Tighten the wingnut. |
| 8 | Use a plastic scraper tool to remove all existing wheel weights. Discard the wheel weights. Note: Thoroughly clean all adhesive residue.
|
| 9 | Input the vehicle and wheel information into the balancer. |
| 10 | Attach the air chuck to the valve stem, then set the correct pressure on the touchscreen. The balancer automatically adjusts the tire pressure. Note: Use the tire sticker values displayed on the door jam. If unavailable, use these values:
|
| 11 | Disconnect the air chuck from the valve stem. |
Make sure that the balancer is in Road Force mode, the road force limits are set to "P" (passenger car), and SmartWeight is enabled.
| 1 | Lower the balancer hood. The balancer checks the road force and balance.
|
| 2 | Install the wheel weights:
|
| 3 | Repeat step 13 to install additional weights, if prompted by the balancer. |
| 4 | Lower the hood. The balancer checks the balance again. Follow the on-screen instructions if the wheel is still not balanced. |
| 5 | Record the road force on the Repair Order. |
| 6 | Press and hold the brake pedal to keep the wheel from spinning. |
| 7 | Loosen the wingnut and remove the outer flange plate from the wheel. |
| 8 | Remove the wheel from the balancer. |
| 9 | Repeat step 4 to step 19 for any other wheels to balance. |
| 10 | Install the wheels onto the vehicle and lower the vehicle. See Wheel (Remove and Install). |
