Remove

Caution:

Brake fluid dissolves paint. Have clean towels and plenty of water standing by to wash spilled brake fluid off painted surfaces.

Note:

Dispose of used brake fluid in a manner consistent with local environmental codes.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Remove all 4 wheels. See Wheel (Remove and Install).
  3. Remove the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  5. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Remove the cabin intake duct. See Duct - Cabin Intake (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the hood latch cover. See Cover - Hood Latch (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the underhood storage unit carpet. See Carpet - Underhood Storage (Remove and Install).
  9. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the wiper arms. See Wiper Arms (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the LH and RH shock tower covers. See Cover - Shock Tower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  13. Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake fluid reservoir.
  14. Place absorbent towels under the brake fluid reservoir.
  15. Clean the area around the brake fluid reservoir, and then remove the brake fluid reservoir cap.
  16. Use a brake fluid syringe to remove the brake fluid from the reservoir.
  17. Install the brake fluid reservoir cap.
  18. Loosen the nuts that attach the brake lines to the booster, and then slide the nuts back on the brake lines.
  19. Remove the nuts that attach the master cylinder to the brake booster.
  20. Remove the master cylinder and reservoir assembly from the vehicle.
    Note: Make sure the master cylinder o-ring is also removed.

2Remove all 4 wheels. See Wheel (Remove and Install).
3Remove the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
4Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
5Disconnect 12V power. See 12V Power (Disconnect and Connect).
6Remove the cabin intake duct. See Duct - Cabin Intake (Remove and Replace).
7Remove the hood latch cover. See Cover - Hood Latch (Remove and Replace).
8Remove the underhood storage unit carpet. See Carpet - Underhood Storage (Remove and Install).
9Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
10Remove the wiper arms. See Wiper Arms (Remove and Replace).
11Remove the LH and RH shock tower covers. See Cover - Shock Tower - LH (Remove and Replace).
12Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
13Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake fluid reservoir.
14Place absorbent towels under the brake fluid reservoir.
15Clean the area around the brake fluid reservoir, and then remove the brake fluid reservoir cap.
16Use a brake fluid syringe to remove the brake fluid from the reservoir.
17Install the brake fluid reservoir cap.
18Loosen the nuts that attach the brake lines to the booster, and then slide the nuts back on the brake lines.
19Remove the nuts that attach the master cylinder to the brake booster.
20Remove the master cylinder and reservoir assembly from the vehicle.
Note: Make sure the master cylinder o-ring is also removed.

Install

  1. Position the master cylinder and reservoir assembly in the vehicle.
    Caution:
    Handle the electromechanical brake booster only by the main housing. Do not use the pushrod, the reservoir, or the connectors to lift or manipulate the electromechanical brake booster.

    Caution:
    When positioning the brake master cylinder against the brake booster, make sure the booster rod goes into the master cylinder.
    Position the reservoir and master cylinder in the vehicle
    Align the brake booster rod with the master cylinder port
  2. Install the nuts that attach the master cylinder to the brake booster.
    Torque 20 Nm
  3. Remove the brake line plugs from the brake master cylinder.
  4. Install the nuts that attach the brake lines to the master cylinder.
    Torque 16 Nm
  5. Remove the absorbent towels from under the brake fluid reservoir.
  6. Connect the electrical connector to the brake fluid reservoir.
  7. Install the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  8. Install the LH and RH shock tower covers. See Cover - Shock Tower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Install the wiper arms. See Wiper Arms (Remove and Replace).
  10. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  11. Install the underhood storage unit carpet. See Carpet - Underhood Storage (Remove and Install).
  12. Install the hood latch cover. See Cover - Hood Latch (Remove and Replace).
  13. Install the cabin intake duct. See Duct - Cabin Intake (Remove and Replace).
  14. Connect 12V power. See 12V Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  15. Bleed the braking system. See Brake Fluid Bleed / Flush.
  16. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  17. Install the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
  18. Install all 4 wheels. See Wheel (Remove and Install).
  19. Perform a test drive.
Position the reservoir and master cylinder in the vehicle
Align the brake booster rod with the master cylinder port
1Position the master cylinder and reservoir assembly in the vehicle.
Caution:

Torque 20 Nm
3Remove the brake line plugs from the brake master cylinder.
4Install the nuts that attach the brake lines to the master cylinder.
Torque 16 Nm
5Remove the absorbent towels from under the brake fluid reservoir.
6Connect the electrical connector to the brake fluid reservoir.
7Install the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
8Install the LH and RH shock tower covers. See Cover - Shock Tower - LH (Remove and Replace).
9Install the wiper arms. See Wiper Arms (Remove and Replace).
10Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
11Install the underhood storage unit carpet. See Carpet - Underhood Storage (Remove and Install).
12Install the hood latch cover. See Cover - Hood Latch (Remove and Replace).
13Install the cabin intake duct. See Duct - Cabin Intake (Remove and Replace).
14Connect 12V power. See 12V Power (Disconnect and Connect).
15Bleed the braking system. See Brake Fluid Bleed / Flush.
16Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
17Install the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
18Install all 4 wheels. See Wheel (Remove and Install).
19Perform a test drive.
