Remove

Note:

This procedure is applicable to both Model 3 base and sport brake calipers.

  1. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  3. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel (Remove and Install).
  4. Position the oil drain under the LH front brake caliper area.
  5. Remove and discard the bolt and washers that attach the LH front brake caliper hose to the LH front brake caliper.
  6. Remove the bolts that attach the LH front brake caliper to the knuckle, and then remove the caliper from the vehicle.
1Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
2Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
3Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel (Remove and Install).
4Position the oil drain under the LH front brake caliper area.
5Remove and discard the bolt and washers that attach the LH front brake caliper hose to the LH front brake caliper.
6Remove the bolts that attach the LH front brake caliper to the knuckle, and then remove the caliper from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Install new bolts to attach the LH front brake caliper to the knuckle.
    Torque 94 Nm
  2. Install a new bolt and 2 new washers to attach the LH front brake hose to the LH front brake caliper.
    Torque 42 Nm
  3. Remove the oil drain from underneath the vehicle.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Perform the bleed procedure for the LH front brake caliper. See Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper.
  6. Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel (Remove and Install).
  7. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  8. Perform the brake burnishing procedure. See Brake Pads - Burnishing.
  9. Perform vehicle road test using a series of ABS-active stops and make sure proper brake pedal feel and performance is achieved.
1Install new bolts to attach the LH front brake caliper to the knuckle.
Torque 94 Nm
2Install a new bolt and 2 new washers to attach the LH front brake hose to the LH front brake caliper.
Torque 42 Nm
3Remove the oil drain from underneath the vehicle.
4Lower the vehicle.
5Perform the bleed procedure for the LH front brake caliper. See Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper.
6Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel (Remove and Install).
7Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
8Perform the brake burnishing procedure. See Brake Pads - Burnishing.
9Perform vehicle road test using a series of ABS-active stops and make sure proper brake pedal feel and performance is achieved.
